Hi, I'm Joan Warren, a full-time independent copywriter. That's me in the picture with the pencil behind my ear. It's a pretty good likeness, though I don't have my nose stuck in a paper all the time. But I do love writing marketing copy. And as you can see from what my clients say about my work, I'm pretty good at it, too. I currently live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area and I serve clients throughout the Bay Area, as well as in other parts of the U.S.

What I do...
The focus of my work is to provide clear, measurably effective copy that makes sales, gets leads and improves clients' bottom line. From artwork and non-profit fundraising to management consulting and credit cards, I've written copy for a huge range of products and services. One of my favorite challenges was selling an out-of-date encyclopedia set for a book publisher — my ad generated many sales! My portfolio covers print, broadcast and online material: direct-response mailings, advertisements, descriptive brochures and flyers, radio spots, email solicitations, online banners, buttons and websites, product naming and tagline development, and much more.

Who I work for...
I write copy for a variety of business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets and industries including book, newsletter and magazine publishing, banking and financial services, telecommunications, law, real estate development, shipping and construction, among others. I love the variety. My clients include American Express, Charles Schwab, AT&T, Ziff Davis Publishing, the Glaucoma Research Foundation and dozens more.

What else...
I also write articles and newsletters for employees, customers, prospects and constituents, and I have done many of these. I can create story ideas, conduct interviews, and research and write articles that inform, educate or tell a client's story so as to promote a given cause or perspective.

In addition to my extensive experience writing copy, I worked as a Product Manager at one of the nation's major credit issuers where I had been promoted from a copywriting position. Sitting on the "other side" as a client gave me vast insight into the burning question, "What do clients really want?" (Hint: Copy that actually SELLS.) In other words, I "get it."
